Bio

Mic Liu (they/them) is a lawyer, Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), researcher, and organizational inclusion consultant. Mic practises full-time in family law at Family Law Group, serving clients across Ontario. As a racialized, Queer, Trans/non-binary, and neuroatypical person, Mic brings a trauma-informed and equity-centred approach to practice, with a focus on helping clients feel supported, understood, and empowered.

In addition to family law, Mic has practised in human rights, employment, environmental, and regulatory law at local, regional, and national law firms. Across practice areas, Mic’s engineering background strengthens their ability to make sense of complex facts, identify what matters most, and develop practical, well-reasoned solutions.

Mic received their law degree from the University of Ottawa (JD, magna cum laude, Dean’s Award), where they also completed a PhD focused on technological accountability, social justice, and the public interest in Canada. During law school, Mic held several leadership roles, including serving on the student union board of directors, as president of the law student society, and on the University Senate.

Before entering law, Mic earned undergraduate and master’s degrees in civil engineering from the University of Waterloo and worked with national and international engineering firms on major infrastructure projects.

Mic is also deeply involved in community leadership and volunteer work, including having served as a member of the Law Society of Ontario’s Equity Advisory Group, a board member of Professional Engineers Ontario, co-chair of the Equity Task Force of the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers, and a mentor with the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers. They have also supported many initiatives advancing 2SLGBTQ+ inclusion in law and engineering.

TESTIMONIAL

There was no doubt in my mind that that was the law firm that I wanted to go with. I was very confident signing that contract to have them represent me.
